Dr. Alan Gass, M.D., dubbed "The Integrative Medicine Doc" by his colleauges, is the newly appointed Director of Integrative Medicine at the National Institute of Whole Health (NIWH) which trains nurses, doctors and health care providers to have a "whole person" approach to practicing medicine and health care.
He is also Director of Advanced Cardiac Failure and Transplantation at Westchester Medical Center treating patients with end-stage heart failure, which he has done for most of his career. Previously, Dr. Gass served for 14 years as Medical Director of New York Mount Sinai’s Heart Transplant Program from it’s inception in 1991.
Dr. Gass is an expert in cardiac health, disease prevention and minimally invasive post surgical auto immune suppressants. For many years now, Dr. Gass has redefined the protocol for heart transplant medication by greatly reduced the drugs he gives to his transplant patients. The result is: they are healthier, enjoy a better quality of life, and of course, the cost of their treatment is much less. Dr. Gass’s research in this area has allowed post-transplant patients to be treated with a minimal amount of drugs, avoiding long-term side effects and improving their quality of life while maintaining excellent survival.
